Dion & The Belmonts - Greatest Hits

Dion and the Belmonts waren eine bekannte US-amerikanische Popmusik-Gruppe aus den späten 1950er Jahren, die den Doo-Wop-Stil entscheidend prägten.
Der Sänger Dion DiMucci und die Begleitband The Belmonts (Besetzung: Angelo D'Aleo (Tenor), Fred Milano (Tenor) und Carlo Mastrangelo (Bariton)), die sich bereits aus Schulzeiten kannten, taten sich 1957 für zwei Jahre unter dem Namen "Dion and the Belmonts" zusammen.
Ihre Mischung aus Doo-Wop und R&B brachte sie schnell in die Hitparaden: schon ihre erste Single "I wonder why" erreichte Platz 22. Nach den folgenden "No One Knows" (#19, geschrieben von Ernie Maresca) und "Don't Pity Me" kam dann der größte Hit "A Teenager in Love" (1958), "Where and when", "When you wish upon a star" festigten ihre Popularität vollends. 1960 lösten sich "Dion and the Belmonts" auf, um jeweils solo bzw. als Band weiterzuarbeiten.

Charles Manson - Live At San Quentin

Charles Milles Manson (* 12. November 1934 in Cincinnati) ist ein US-amerikanischer Verbrecher. Er war Anführer der Manson Family, einer Hippie-Kommune in Südkalifornien in der Nähe von Los Angeles. Manson war ein eigenwilliger und mäßig erfolgreicher Folkrock-Musiker. Die Manson Family wurde 1969 durch die Tate-LaBianca-Morde weltweit berüchtigt. Manson hatte diese angeordnet, aber nicht selbst gemordet. Er wurde wegen Verabredung zum Mord zum Tode verurteilt und verbüßt nach Abschaffung der Todesstrafe 1972 in Kalifornien eine lebenslange Haftstrafe im kalifornischen Staatsgefängnis in Corcoran.
Manson erregte sofort nach seiner Verhaftung weltweite Aufmerksamkeit, sein Porträt erschien auf den Titelseiten internationaler Magazine. Verschiedene Autoren veröffentlichten Bücher über Manson, seine Kommune und deren Verbrechen – die meisten wurden Bestseller. Mehrere Spielfilme und auch zahlreiche TV-Dokumentationen wurden über die Manson Family gedreht. Um Manson herum entstand sehr schnell ein düsterer Kult, da er, insbesondere in den USA, als das personifizierte „Böse“ gilt.

Pentagram-Turn To Stone

Pentagram ist eine der ältesten Untergrund-Bands der Heavy-Metal-Geschichte. Die 1971 gegründete und mit Unterbrechungen bis heute bestehende Band aus Woodbridge, Virginia (USA) spielt einen von Black Sabbath beeinflussten Doom Metal.
Die Vorgeschichte von Pentagram reicht zurück bis in das Jahr 1970, als Bobby Liebling der Band Space Meat aus Washington D.C. beitrat, welche daraufhin in Stone Bunny umbenannt wurde. Weitere Mitglieder der Band waren John Jennings (Gitarre), Greg Mayne (Bass) und Geof O’Keefe (Schlagzeug), die alle später bei Pentagram auftraten. Bereits nach kurzer Zeit stieg Liebling, dessen harter Gesang nicht zum melodiösen Material von Jennings passte, wieder aus. Die anderen drei Musiker benannten sich erneut in Space Meat um, lösten sich aber kurze Zeit später auf.

Coven

Coven war eine US-amerikanische Psychedelic-Rock-Band, die durch ein satanisches Image Aufsehen erregte. Die Band hatte mit dem Titellied zum Film „Billy Jack“ ein One Hit Wonder.
Die Band wurde um 1967 in Chicago von der Sängerin Esther „Jinx“ Dawson, dem Bassisten Mike „Oz“ Osbourne (nicht identisch mit dem britischen Sänger John Michael „Ozzy“ Osbourne) und Schlagzeuger Steve Ross gegründet. Die aus Indiana stammende Dawson war eine studierte Opernsängerin. Erstmals öffentlich in Erscheinung trat Coven in den Jahren 1967 und 1968 als Vorgruppe von Vanilla Fudge und den Yardbirds. Unterstützt wurden sie dabei von Gitarrist Chris Nielsen und Keyboarder John Hobbs. Musikproduzent Bill Traut wurde auf die Band aufmerksam und brachte sie mit dem Gitarristen Jim Donlinger zusammen. Die Band erhielt einen Plattenvertrag bei Akarma Records und veröffentlichte 1969 ihr Debütalbum „Witchcraft: Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls“. 1970 verließ Donlinger die Band, um mit Michael Tegza Lovecraft neu zu formieren. Der mit dem Album und den Bühnenshows zur Schau getragene Satanismus führte zu einem Boykott durch Händler und Medien. Als die Band im März 1970 durch einen Zeitungsartikel mit Charles Manson in Verbindung gebracht wurde, nahm die Vertriebsfirma Mercury Records das Album aus dem Verkehr.
Die Band löste sich daher Ende 1970 auf. Sängerin Dawson formierte sie kurz darauf wieder neu, um für Tom Laughlins Film „Billy Jack“ die Single „One Tin Soldier (The Legend of Billy Jack)“ aufzunehmen. Das Lied war von 1971 bis 1973 in den Billboard Hot 100 vertreten und erreichte dort Platz 26.
Wegen des Erfolges der Single nahm Sunshine Snake Records (ein Sublabel von MGM Records) Coven für ein Album unter Vertrag. 1972 erschien damit das zweite Studioalbum Coven. Im Jahr 1974 folgte das dritte Studioalbum „Blood on the Snow“ bei Buddah Records. Zum Titellied wurde in den Disney Studios ein Musikvideo gedreht, aber das Lied schaffte den Einstieg in die Billboard Charts nicht. Die Band löste sich Mitte der 1970er Jahre auf. Sängerin Jinx Dawson begann eine Karriere als Schauspielerin und Model. Ein 1990 unternommener Comeback-Versuch der Band scheiterte. 2007 wurde eine Compilation „Metal Goth Queen: Out of the Vault“ veröffentlicht. Sie besteht aus unveröffentlichten Aufnahmen von Coven. Zu hören sind namhafte Gastmusiker wie Michael Monarch (ex-Steppenwolf), Glen Cornick (ex-Jethro Tull) und Tommy Bolin (ex-Deep Purple).
